Sermon Notes
“But, On the Third Day…”
Pastor Kevin Wilson
Luke 24:1-12

Big Idea: Hope is found in the empty tomb.

“The best news of the Christian gospel is that the supremely glorious Creator of the universe has acted in Jesus Christ's death and resurrection to remove every obstacle between us and himself so that we may find everlasting joy in seeing and savoring his infinite beauty.” John Piper

Key Points:

1. Why do we seek the living among the dead? vs. 1-5

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24

2. Some will choose not to believe. vs. 6-11

“And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:21-27

3. But, some will believe. v. 12

“One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43

Scattered to Fulfill the Great Commission

Spring Local

With a vision to be scattered into the places we live, work, learn, and play, our desire is to mobilize the Westover body—meeting tangible needs, building meaningful relationships, and creating opportunities to share the Gospel of Christ throughout our community.

On Sunday, April 12, Westover will dedicate our gathered time to celebrating what God is doing in and through Local Missions. This special, one-service Sunday will center around one word: Mobilize. Join us as we welcome community partners and Westover ministries as they share opportunities to serve and impact Greensboro.
