Refugee and Immigrant Outreach
Throughout Scripture, we see a picture of God’s heart for the nations to be drawn to Himself and to each other. From the covenant with Abraham, to the barrier of hostility broken down among humankind through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, to the new heaven and earth where people from every tribe, nation, and language will be united with one voice in praise to the Lord, God’s desire for reconciliation is revealed. We worship a God who guarantees the healing of the nations in the new heaven and earth. This promise compels us to pursue this healing today as a way to bear witness to Christ and the coming Kingdom, all to the glory of God.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:34-35
Serving Opportunities:
Hope House
Early in 2022, we focused our Refugee Resettlement efforts on the renovation of a property across the street from our church-campus, called Hope House, where Westover will be hosting refugee families/individuals with short-term housing while they work with local partners to become financially stable.
We need volunteers to work with our current guests in a variety of ways.
- Provide/Serve a Meal
- Spend intentional time with our guests, learning more about them while giving them the opportunity to practice their English
- Provide transportation (when needed)
- Provide driving lessons
- Contribute houseware/furnishings (when needed)
After School Tutoring
Tutoring academically at-risk students who live in our neighborhood, all who speak English as a second language.
Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays afternoons, 3:45pm-5:15pm at Westover.
